14 months, frequent waking overnight and assisted to sleep

Joshua had difficulty settling unless he was in a pram or car, often waking up during the night and staying wide awake for hours. Sometimes, his parents had to drive him around in the early hours of the morning to help him fall back asleep. Joshua attended nursery four days a week, where the educators would help him sleep by patting his back and shushing him. He typically took two naps daily, with a longer nap in the morning and a shorter, one-hour nap in the afternoon.

His parents booked a Complete Sleep Support package with Melanie

During our phone consultation, we reviewed the parents' detailed questionnaire and discussed their sleep goals. They wanted Joshua to learn to settle independently in his cot and eliminate his night wakings. We identified that, at his age, the overnight feeds were more of a habit than a necessity. Therefore, we focused on replacing those feeds with their preferred settling method. We also ensured that Joshua was eating enough and getting the right nutrients during the day to keep him full throughout the night. Additionally, we made slight adjustments to his naps to help build up his sleep pressure during the day. We introduced an age-appropriate settling method that would give Joshua the confidence to settle independently.

Joshua responded well from day one of implementing the plan. He began settling well for both naps and bedtime. Occasionally, he would wake up and make some noise during the night, but he managed to resettle himself without any help from his parents. By the end of the week, Joshua was sleeping through the night, even when he became slightly ill, with minimal disruption to his sleep.

Here’s what his parents shared during their week of support:

"Slept through the night, which is brilliant, even when away and sleeping in a travel cot."

"Thank you so much for all your help." "Sleeping more than ever before, great!"
